A Fresh Perspective
As much as I LOVE Summer, I am so relieved to be back to the routine school days provide. I haven’t posted on Every Mom’s Story in nine months and I wanted to touch base and fill you in on why! My creative efforts have been redirected over the past year, as I embarked on aSongwriting journey. All of my energy was focused on learning guitar and putting my thoughts, pain and experience to music. Because of that, my blog writing took a seat on the back burner. There just wasn’t enough creative mojo in my tank to wear all my different hats and I was burning the candlewick at both ends.
I missed blog writing, but I just didn’t have it in me, to do it. I was also doing my best to relinquish myself of the pressure of writing so often, as I was already spread thin. It felt good to give myself the freedom to NOT write. It felt good to say NO for a while, but I’ve been bit by the writing bug once again! I have a fresh perspective and new direction for Every Mom’s Story, which includes the highs and lows of motherhood, promoting mom’s and their awesome stories and encouraging you to find that thing, apart from your family, that brings you joy!
For me, music is that thing! Whether I am mentoring artists, vocal coaching, singing, or songwriting, music makes my world go round! I have realized that the sharing of my journey with music, from my beginning as a 9 year old to my place in life today, can offer encouragement not only to those I work with, but also to my fellow girlfriends. We all have that thing we long to do, but life gets in the way, dreams get put on hold and before we know it, time has gotten away from us. I want this blog to be a place where we encourage each other to grab hold of that “thing” and get A MOVE ON!
When the idea for this blog surfaced over four years ago, it initially started as a book idea that would feature different moms, their parenting styles, and their unique stories that connect us all. Over time, as more and more ideas came to me, the thought of a book became overwhelming, and frankly, I knew nothing on how to actually get a book done. With that, the blog platform seemed more realistic and tangible, so I pursued that avenue. Even so, I always held onto the possibility that my blog could lead to a book someday. (like someday, in a land, FAR FAR AWAY)
I am very excited to announce that I have chosen to make that “someday in a land FAR FAR AWAY,” more like “TODAY!” I am writing and will self publish my first book! I have shared this with many friends and they have all asked me how this happened? How did I, overnight, just decide to write a book? Well, as I said above, the seed was planted years ago, I just needed the encouragement to join the book writing party!
On the way home from my amazing 3600 mile cross country road trip with my family, my sweet book fairy flew through my subconscious. I am pretty sure I was in Oklahoma in the middle of nowhere, when she whispered in my ear, “maybe you sould write a book?” I dismissed her of course, and off she went. Two days later, as I am deleting emails from my inbox, I discover a webinar opportunity through Crystal Paine of Money Savings Mom. If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that Money Savings Mom is my favorite thrifty mom blog site. The webinar was hosted by Chandler Bolt of Self Publishing School and he answered all the reasons why I should write a book this year and presented a step-by-step online course to guide me a long the way! My decision didn’t take long, because I knew I had plenty to say, wisdom to share and a story that needed a home.
As part of the process, I am supposed to tell everyone I know about my first goal, which is my rough draft date. So, in order to keep myself accountable, I am sharing it with you! By September 20th, (modified, as it was originally going to be September 30th) I will have the rough draft complete for my first book. I am not quite ready to share the name of the book, because I can’t figure out my darn title, but I will say it revolves around my journey with music, including the ups and downs and everything in between! And if you’ve ever had the book fairy visit you, and are curious about the course I am taking, check out this link to Learn More About Self Publishing School.
